How the main features work

Income & Expenses
Add income before or after tax, fixed bills, one-off costs, and estimates for spending that varies, like fuel or groceries. Not sure what to estimate? Enter what it costs each time and how often, and the app works it out. When a price changes, or you switch from yearly to monthly, set it from a date and earlier periods keep the old one.
Actual & Run Rate
Actual shows money on the day it moves, so a fortnightly pay gives some months three paydays and an annual bill lands in its month. Run Rate shows the smooth average of a normal period. View any week, fortnight, month or year, with the year starting in the month you choose.
Accounts & Net Worth
Savings, everyday, credit card, loan and mortgage accounts, plus property and other assets. Update your balances in one go and see each account's history and your net worth over time. Close an account you no longer use and its history stays.
Loan Calculator
Enter a price, deposit, rate and term to see weekly, fortnightly or monthly repayments, total interest and LVR, and how the repayment compares with what you have left over each month.
Affordability Scenarios
Try out a move, a car or a home: expenses that stop, new ones, a loan, and upfront costs. Choose which accounts would pay, keep an emergency buffer aside, and see whether you have the cash now or roughly when you would. Save scenarios, duplicate them to compare, and archive the ones you are done with.
Dashboard & Backups
Savings rate, daily spending, biggest expense, spending by category and a cash flow projection up to 12 months ahead. A backup is saved automatically each day your data changes, and you can add named restore points and a backup folder of your choice.
Works With Your AI Assistant
Assistant access in Settings is off until you turn it on. While it's on and Budget Planner is open, an AI assistant on your Mac such as Claude Desktop or ChatGPT desktop can read your budget and add or change expenses and scenarios, and what it reads is sent to the AI service behind that assistant. The setup steps are in the help centre.
Why Budget Planner instead of a spreadsheet or a bank app?
No bank login
Nothing connects to your bank and nothing imports transactions. You plan with the amounts you choose, and your financial details stay on your Mac.
Payments on their real dates
Averaging a yearly bill over twelve months hides the month it is due. Actual mode shows it in the month you pay it, and Run Rate still gives you the average when you want it.
Estimates for the messy bits
Groceries, fuel and haircuts rarely cost the same twice. Mark them as estimates and they are spread evenly, so they never look like a bill that is due on one day.
Decisions before you make them
Scenarios show what a loan or a big purchase does to your surplus and your cash, without changing your actual budget.
How do I get started?
  1. Choose your currency and the month your year starts. Setup walks you through it, and you can skip any step.
  2. Add your accounts with their current balances.
  3. Add your income and expenses as fixed amounts or estimates, from the date each one starts.
  4. Try a scenario for the loan or purchase you are thinking about, and save it to compare later.

First time installing one of these apps? The Installing an app guide walks through downloading it from your Gumroad Library and installing it on your Mac.

Privacy, offline use and backups

Does Budget Planner connect to my bank?

No. There is no bank login and no transaction import. You enter your accounts, income and expenses, and update balances when you want to.

Does Budget Planner work offline?

Yes. Once installed, everything in the app works without an internet connection. Checking for updates and downloading them need internet.

Do I need an account to use the app?

No. Open the installed app and start planning. You do not need a Budget Planner account or an online sign-in.

Is my data stored in the cloud?

No. Accounts, income, expenses, scenarios and settings are stored on your Mac. The app does not upload them anywhere. If you choose a backup folder in iCloud Drive or Dropbox, backups are copied there by that service.

Can I back up my data?

Yes. The app saves a backup automatically each day your data changes and keeps two weeks of them. You can also create named restore points, export a full backup file, and choose a backup folder, such as one in iCloud Drive, so a copy survives a new or lost Mac. Budget Planner never deletes anything in that folder.

Currencies, safety and requirements

Which currencies does it support?

Choose your currency in Settings. Amounts are written the way your Mac is set up in Language & Region. The app does not convert between currencies.

Is the app safe to install?

Yes. Budget Planner is code-signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarised by Apple, for both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. macOS verifies it opens without security warnings.

Does it work on Windows?

Currently macOS only (12 or later). A Windows version may follow based on demand.

Buying, updates and refunds

Can I try the app and get a refund?

Yes. Individual app purchases include a 14-day money-back guarantee. Install it, try it, and if it does not suit your needs, email david@tiongcreative.com.au with your order details within 14 days of purchase.

If your purchase is fully refunded and the licence ends, you must stop using the app and delete copies and installers held under that licence. Your own documents and exported work remain yours to keep.

Are updates included?

Yes. When you buy the app on its own there is no subscription, and future updates to it are included.

Do I need a subscription?

No. Budget Planner is a one-time purchase, with future updates included. Or get every app through the Tiong Creative membership with updates while your membership is active.

How is payment processed?

Prices are in USD and payment is processed securely by Gumroad. Gumroad may show the price converted to your local currency as a guide, but your card is charged in USD, so your bank may add a small foreign transaction fee.

What has changed in the latest version?

If you buy the app, every future update to it is included at no extra cost. Members get updates while their membership is active. See the full list of changes on the changelog page. To update, download the latest version from your Gumroad Library, open the DMG, and drag the app to Applications. Choose Replace when macOS asks. Your data and settings are kept automatically.

Where are the complete guides and FAQs?

Step-by-step guides, from setting up to affordability and backups, are in the Budget Planner help pages. Release notes are on the changelog page. For anything else, email david@tiongcreative.com.au.
